Hi there! My name’s Joshua and I’d like to thank you for visiting my site. I look forward to sharing with you, here at BalancedDeveloper.com, the things I have learned over the years about how to boost your career by becoming a well balanced developer.
When I started out in the Information Technology industry over 15 years ago, I thought I was the bees knees. I had spent almost 6 long years learning everything I needed to know to become a computer programmer.
I was ready to conquer the world!
Entering the workforce was quite a shock. I thought I was a highly trained Java developer…and the very first consulting company I joined put me to work programming in…
COBOL
That’s when I first began to realise that I didn’t know anything about the IT industry. I have had to learn the hard way, over the last 15 years, what it really takes to succeed in this fast paced industry.
I’ve learned the vast majority of my technical skills either on the job or by teaching myself after hours.
Because technology changes so quickly, I’ve found that my technical skills need to be completely revamped every few years just to stay current.
However, over time I have discovered a little known secret…
Technical skills aren’t the only things you need in order to succeed in your career. Technical skills are important, but being a balanced developer is far more important.
It turns out that it is your soft skills that can make or break your career. In fact, it is your soft skills that end up putting more money in your bank account than anything else. And the best bit is that once gained, they never lose their value (unlike technical skills!)
Stick around BalancedDeveloper.com, and I’ll help you learn what it takes to succeed and level up your programming career.
